By the year 2022, half of the top 100 drug sales will be biologics. And with 2,700 biologics currently in development, the market will soon be booming. But there is a hitch: Most biological drugs are administered parenterally. And though this is better than nothing, it does coincide with high treatment costs and stress for the patient. The future aim therefore, is to create biological drugs that can be administered orally.
